Couple of thoughts…

FRIENDS
I have less than 3 people that I would consider close friends. By close I mean the kind of guy you can talk to about anything and who will hold you accountable when you are struggling spiritually. Two years ago I attended a “Dad the family Shepherd” seminar at my current church. I did not want to go but ultimately decided to attend. The room had about 60 guys there, and 50 of them were over the age of 60. I quickly found a table of three other guys my age, all of which I had gone to college with, and felt a little more comfortable. The seminars were somewhat boring but the four of us started meeting weekly and have not missed a week in two years. I have never had this type of friendship, and I am going to miss the all when I leave in a couple of weeks.

One of our guys recently moved about three hours away so we have not been able to meet with him, but he called me two weeks ago and asked when he and his wife could come and help us get ready for the move. I knew that he would not take no for an anwser, so I said that this last Saturday would be great. He and his family (wife and four kids) woke up well before dawn to make the trip to our house and spend all day working with us. He and his wife are wonderful people and this type of friend is hard to find.

CHURCH

• Here is what runs through my mind during the first 20 minutes of a typical Sunday service:
• I wonder if Pastor Joe sent me a text needing something before he begins speaking.
• The air conditioning feels a little cold today; I hope we can get this fixed before the service starts.
• Now it is too hot. Will this cause anyone to not pay attention to the message?
• The speakers are too loud and the echo is horrible, I wonder if John notices this as well
• We look too full on the far side but plenty of empty seats over here. Why is the usher taking more people to the far side and down front after service has started?
• Why is that kid sitting up front he is too disruptive to the other people around him. Should I go remove him? Wait, his dad is right there and he is huge. He will handle it.
• I wonder if our ushers and security team are paying attention. What will I do if we have an incident?
• I wonder if Pastor Joe sent me a text needing something before he begins speaking.
• Why is that guy walking up towards the platform, is he a threat? Oh, just getting a tissue.
• I sure hope the power point is working properly
• Why did his microphone cut out? Did he not change the battery? Do we have the extra one ready?
• Why is that door open to the cafeteria? Robert needs to get this under control so it is not disrupting the service.
• I wonder if the offering is good today. We need (insert number here) to make payroll this week.
• Did Brett ever get that streamer down from the rafters? Let me see……Nope there it is. Send him a quick email.
• Send another email to Janell regarding the curtains in the 4yr old room. I keep forgetting so I better do this now.
• I wonder if Pastor Joe sent me a text needing something before he begins speaking.
• I hope the grape juice is not spoiled or we may have a rowdy bunch after communion.
